Two trains collide near Mathura; 12 feared dead

Fifteen people are feared killed as the Goa Express rammed a stationary Mewar Express near Mathura on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place at around 4 a.m. between Mathura and Vrindavan stations. While early reports put the number of casualties at 10-12, about 40 to 50 people are trapped inside a crushed unreserved bogey of the Mewar Express.

Gas cutters are being used to cut through the damaged bogey. “Fifteen injured have been taken out from the ill-fated general coach of Mewar Express after cutting the bogey,” District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra Shukla said.

Senior police and district official have reached the spot. Helplines have been set up in all major neighbouring cities (Can hyper link helplinbe numbers copy here too).

Northern Railway has cancelled the Agra Nizamuddin inter-city express and diverted a few other trains which included the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express for Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh Express and Karnataka Express. They are being diverted via Tundla.
